As a reader, I might be influenced to buy a book if it the dust jacket says it was written by an Edgar, Agatha, or other well-known award author. However, if it is some award that I have never heard of, I doubt it would have any influence. Hope that helps.

I'm with Sandy -- I tend to seek out books that I've heard about from sources I respect (and I love the page 99 test!)
There are similar awards in storytelling, and paying to be considered for an award reminds me of the "Who's Who" directories and poetry anthologies "you are winner, and it will only cost you (or your parents) $59.99 to order the book you are in."
I think personal appearances matter more. Our library often has panels for local authors. Elaine Viets' has tied her book signings in St. Louis in with local charities -- a much better use of time and buyers' funds . . .

As far as I am concerned, those awards matter for naught. I read the fly leaf synopsis and can usually decide then and there if I will find the story of interest. If I am borderline making a decision, I will do the page 99 test. I say, "Save your money."

I wish that too, Sandy...the before Christmas part, that is. On the other hand, maybe it's good to relax after all the stress of the holidays with Dixie. Take a day off, stay in your robe and slippers, make hot chocolate and bring a plate of cookies to the sofa along with RAINING CAT SITTERS AND DOGS.

Well, you have answered the question I was wondering about yesterday. I was thinking I needed a Dixie Hemingway fix and was debating how long I could wait before asking when the next publication would happen.
Too bad the powers that be can't make this take place a
month earlier so we would have a new book for Christmas presents and/or stocking stuffers. Oh well . . life goes on.

It's not limited to stories either. I listened to a song in spanish so beautiful I took it to a friend and begged her to translate it for me. It didn't disappoint either. It was what an American would call a fan letter, but what he said was basically a love song to the collector of music.

It was just so beautiful, all the words positively danced together. It made me realize just how empty we are in some ways. I almost wish I could move to a different country for a few months just to soak up the language and take it home.

I have just discovered your books. I am currently reading Curiousity killed the Cat Sitter and I am quite impressed. I love it when I come across a writer who captures my attention and my heart. Good job. I've literally read thousands and thousands of books and yours are great. I can't wait to hunt down your other books. Keep them coming, please.

Amen, Mary! I'm currently reading Margaret Atwood's latest -- I paid for it -- and like her other dystopic novels, it seems creepily true of where we're headed if we don't get a grip on what is and what is not important in life. Even Rod Serling wouldn't have imagined some of our silliness.
